I have always been an alto—the one who gets to live inside the harmonies. Years of classical singing with choirs and chamber groups made that feel like home. Then a singer-songwriter pulled me out of the alto section and into a recording booth. Somewhere between inventing harmonies for duet lines of my own and singing them into a microphone, I realized I was trusting—and following—my own musical instincts. That turned out to matter.
